BMDs 1841 Census 1851 Census 1861 Census 1871 Census 1881 Census 1891 Census 1901 Census

British Vital Records: In these files I have copied the spelling of the surname as recorded in the original document.  Possible variant spellings include:
BUMSBY, BURNSBY, RAMSBY, RIMSBY, RUMBSEY, RUMBSY, RUMSDY, RUMBY, RUMSBAY, RUMSBEY, RUMSEY, RUMSLEY, RUNSBY, etc...
FUMSBY, HUMSBY and KUMSBY are two additional variants which tend to arise from OCR (Optical Character Recognition) scanning - a form of automated scanning often used for newspaper archives.
I have included in these collections all the occasions of Rumsby "possibles" that I can think of.  The only name that I have not transcribed en masse is RUMSEY - a surname in its own right, it is much more numerous than RUMSBY.  It should be remembered, however, that this is probably the most common mistranscription or our name and I have therefore included all the RUMSEYs from the LDS 1881 census from the East Anglia disk.
Please see the "Root and Branch" section of this website for overseas records.
