Trial co-ordination and management
Southampton's research community has built considerable expertise in the design, initiation, conduct and analysis of high quality national and international clinical trials that directly influence routine clinical practice.
Advice on all functions necessary for the safe and efficient conduct of therapeutic trials is available from the SCRI through the UoS Clinical Trials Unit (UoSCTU).
The UoSCTU has particular expertise for trials in breast cancer, colorectal cancer, upper gastro-intestinal and hepatobiliary cancer, malignant melanoma, urological cancer (including prostate), haematologic malignancy including lymoma, and palliative care. In addition to large phase III trials, the UoSCTU has a specific interest in the rapid development of phase II studies. Supported by funding from the WTCRF, it will also be developing a portfolio of non-cancer trials to complement its cancer work.
It is registered as a UKCRC Clinical Trials Unit and is also closely linked with the MRC Clinical Trials Unit in London.
E-resources such as electronic case report forms and data management systems have been developed in Southampton and are used in many local and national trials.
