Advice
The NIHR Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility (WTCRF) provides dedicated research space, equipment and a team of experienced research staff for use by all clinical academic and NHS researchers. Over 400 studies and thousands of volunteers have been supported by our staff, both within the NIHR WTCRF and through "outreach" in other UHS departments, hospitals and across the wider community.
Specialist facilities include:
- Environmental, sleep and physiology laboratories
- Category II and Category III laboratories
- Endoscopy suite
- High dependency beds
- Temperature controlled consulting rooms
The NIHR WTCRF also has extensive facilities and expertise in conducting clinical research with children. It was the first facility of its kind to build children's research governance into the management infrastructure.
In addition to our own research nurses, the NIHR WTCRF employs a number of staff on behalf of individual investigators, using their research grants. Trial managers and coordinators are employed by the University of Southampton Clinical Trials Unit (UoSCTU).
