Cancer Sciences

The Division exists to foster high quality cancer research of all types. It concentrates upon areas of research strength within the School of Medicine such as immunology and cell biology, closely allied to clinical practice in cancer treatment within the Cancer Research UK Centre.

All cancer research has application in the clinic as its ultimate goal. Research in the Cancer Sciences Division is on the Biomedical Campus at the Southampton General Hospital, in purpose-built laboratories in the Somers building and the Tenovus Research Laboratory. It is home to more than 100 researchers, clinicians and associated staff working as co-ordinated teams across several disciplines. We aim to bring ideas and discoveries made in the laboratory into clinical practice as rapidly as possible and ensure that the scientific hypotheses underlying cancer treatments are properly tested.
